The Vallon of Etançons is a mecca for ski touring enthusiasts. There are routes perfect both for beginners and those looking for a higher Alpine experience.
Some skiers enjoy day trips out, returning to the hut, whilst others stay for a night on the Tour de la Meije. The wardens are able to accompany you on your ski tours. Hikers can also enjoy the valley by snowshoeing up to the hut, either as a day trip or staying overnight.

Access : An easy path leads to the hut in about 2 hrs and then continues towards Refuge du Promontoire.
This is the starting point for many mountaineering routes, including the Col and Tête du Replat and the Pic Nord des Cavales.
As the hut is inside the National Park; dogs are NOT permitted, even if they are on leash.
