Best practice in nature

GOOD HABITS :

1- Before I set off, I plan ahead

I’m getting ready to go out
  • I find out about the route’s characteristics: difficulty, elevation gain, tricky sections, signposting…
  • If I’m setting off with others, I make sure the route is suitable for my companions.
  • If I’m setting off alone, I let a friend or family member know my route.
I’m organising my trip
  • I check the access route and parking areas on site.
  • I park in the designated parking areas and take care not to obstruct the movement of other vehicles (tractors, forestry machinery).
  • I try to car-share or use public transport.
I take account of unforeseen circumstances

I check the weather forecast (the weather changes quickly in the mountains).

I find out how busy my route is likely to be, especially during the summer. In Isère, many areas and routes get very busy during the summer; contact the tourist information offices to find out about their suggested alternatives.

  • I check on Isère Outdoor to see if my route passes through:

1) A wildlife protection area

2) A grazing area

3) A hunting area

I’m getting my kit ready

I’m packing my bag with suitable clothes and shoes, as well as lots of other kit, and always something to eat and drink!

2) Sur le chemin

I’ll stick to the paths
In the great outdoors, we are always on someone else’s property.
  • I respect crops and do not cut across fields that are due to be mown.
  • I stay on marked routes (PDIPR) or in areas designated for my activity.
  • I avoid taking shortcuts to minimise the impact on vegetation (trampling) and soil erosion, as well as disturbance to wildlife.
  • I pay close attention to information and prohibition signs.
What is the PDIPR?Report a problem
I respect nature and adapt my approach
  • I follow the rules on foraging : many species are protected, and even mushroom picking is regulated. Rather than picking them, I can take photographs of the flowers.
  • I observe the animals without disturbing them and do not try to approach them; I give them time to move away quietly.
  • I keep a low profile : I do not disturb animals or herds and I avoid making too much noise.
  • I take my rubbish home (even organic waste) and I don’t light fires (even a small fire destroys the soil for thousands of years).
